Etna Top Easy - Excursion on Etna at 3000 mt

This mount Etna tour from Taormina will take you on the top of the Europe's most active volcano, at 2900 meters.

After the service of the pick-up outside/nearby your accommodation in Taormina or in its close vicinity (depending on the accommodation’s location, a convenient meeting point will be organized), tours are arranged in several stages:

First stop

Drive to Mount Etna and start the ascent to the summit area; depending on the availability and the circumstances the ascent will be either carried out from Rifugio Sapienza (Etna South-East) by cableway and off-road vehicle or from Piano Provenzana (Etna North-East) by off-road vehicles only.

Once at the summit area, you will start an easy hike; our naturalistic guide and a volcanological guide will lead you to the base of the active craters through deserts of black ashes. The expert guides will show you extinct craters as well as introduce you to the spectacular volcanic phenomena that occurred over time. You will admire the central craters from a close distance.

Second stop

At 2000 meters you will visit the volcanic underground, discovering one of the fascinating lava caves of Mt. Etna.

Lunch break

You will enjoy a a light lunch with Sicilian food, drinks and local wine.

Third stop

You will visit the Alcantara Gorges; thousand of years ago, thick lava flowed into the Alcantara river. Walking through the shallow river, surrounded by high basaltic walls, you will marvel at Mother Nature’s geometrical phenomena.

If you don’t have the required equipment, please let us know at the moment of reservation, so we can provide it for you free of charge. The excursion is perfect for people of all ages and for all those who enjoy a good state of health.

Depending on weather conditions the guide can make changes in the itinerary above mentioned.

The ascent to the central crater can go through variations depending on prefectorial ordinance in relation to the volcanic activities and/or weather conditions in order to enjoy a perfect day.

NB: Confirmed departure with minimum 4 people. There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if there are not enough passengers.

• Recommended Equipment: We recommend wearing comfortable and season-appropriate clothes, hiking boots or training shoes (please consider that the temperature on Etna is generally lower). The Tour Company can provide windproof jackets and hiking boots, although, if possible, we suggest you wear your own hiking boots or trainers, as you already know they fit well. In case you don’t have any, you can borrow shoes and jackets for free; if you want to borrow boots we recommend you wear/bring a pair of socks with you. We suggest you bring with you a bag/backpack with a bottle of water, a jacket, a hat and sunblock; we also remind you to bring a swimsuit/pair of shorts, flip-flops and a towel for the stop at the Gorges (in summertime).
