Syracuse

Description
Full day private tour to Syracuse with departure in the morning. The city has been listed among the Unesco World Heritage Sites in 2005, recognized as one of the most important archaeological and cultural sites in Sicily and once considered the most powerful Greek city in the Mediterranean.
The tour begins with a visit to the Archeological Park of the Neapolis in Syracuse, one of the most spectacular archaeological sites in Sicily. Here you'll explore some of the most impressive examples of Greek-Roman culture including the magnificent Greek Theater, one of the largest theaters of the classical world, still used today for classical performances. You'll discover the famous Ear of Dionysus, an impressive limestone cave carved into the rock with exceptional acoustic properties, named by the painter Caravaggio. The Roman Amphitheater, partially carved out of the rock, once hosted gladiator fights and spectacular shows. The ancient Latomie del Paradiso, fascinating stone quarries surrounded by lush vegetation, showcase the engineering prowess of ancient Syracuse.
After the archaeological park, the tour continues with an extensive and immersive visit of Ortygia, the historic heart and soul of Syracuse. This small island, connected to the mainland by bridges, is a treasure trove of history spanning over 2,700 years.

Wandering through the charming narrow streets and baroque squares of Ortygia, you'll discover the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, the oldest Doric temple in Sicily dating back to the 6th century BC. The magnificent Piazza Duomo, considered one of the most beautiful squares in Italy, features the stunning Cathedral of Syracuse, a unique architectural masterpiece built incorporating the ancient Temple of Athena - you can still see the original Greek columns embedded in the walls. The enchanting Arethusa Fountain, a natural freshwater spring surrounded by papyrus plants, is steeped in Greek mythology and remains one of the most romantic spots in the city.
You'll have ample free time to explore the island's hidden corners, stroll along the scenic waterfront promenade with views of the Ionian Sea, visit the colorful daily market where locals shop for fresh fish and produce, admire the elegant baroque palaces, and enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the traditional trattorias or seafood restaurants. Don't miss the chance to taste local specialties and perhaps enjoy a granita while soaking in the Mediterranean atmosphere.
The relaxed pace of this full-day tour allows you to truly experience the essence of Syracuse, with time to photograph, shop for local crafts, and discover the unique blend of Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, and Norman influences that make this city so special.
