SunsEtna - Half Day Etna Sunset Excursion from Taormina

Half day sunset excursion to Etna from Taormina, discovering the amazing naturalistic aspects of the volcano in the fascinating colours of the sunset.

Tours are arranged in several stages:

First stop

It takes about one hour to arrive on Etna North to the camp base: there, you will stop briefly to get to know better the guide and the day’s itinerary. You will also take the needed equipment for the hike (you can have trekking boots and jackets upon request) An expert naturalistic guide will then take the lead and walk you through ancient woods and extinct craters, as well as introduce you to the spectacular volcanic phenomena occurred over time. The walk will be your chance to learn about the typical and unique flora of the North-Etnean area and the many facts related to the volcano. While marvelling at the beauties of Mount Etna, you will enjoy the amazing atmosphere and colours of the sunset; you will hear all about the folks of Etna, about their traditions and customs and will discover in depths the link between man and nature. The trekking part will last 1,5/2 hours.

Second stop

Equipped with helmets and torchlights that the tour company will provide for free, you will be able to get in the volcanic underground and visit one of striking volcanic caves of our volcano; during this part the guide will explain origins, characteristics and uses of the of this fascinating volcanic phenomenon.

Third stop

The tour operator offers you a delicious snack in a mountain hut; you will flavour a sandwich made from typical bread and local products, local wine, a home-made dessert and a taste of sweet almond wine to finish off (vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free options available upon request).

This tour is only available in Summer (June to August). Moreover, its departure and return time may vary from day to day, as it is affected by the effective sunset time as well as by weather and lighting conditions: a typical condition of the Summer months is the presence cloud banks, especially in the early afternoon hours, which could cause rain. This, however, should not affect the tour’s performance; our staff will give you instructions about it.

• Pick up: Pick up and drop-off outside/nearby your accommodation in Taormina or in its close vicinity (depending on the accommodation’s location, a convenient meeting point will be organized). Pick up also from surrounding areas (Giardini Naxos, Letojanni, Castelmola)
• Recommended Equipment: We recommend wearing comfortable and season-appropriate clothes, hiking boots or training shoes (please consider that the temperature on Etna is generally lower). The Tour Company can provide windproof jackets and hiking boots, although, if possible, we suggest you wear your own hiking boots or trainers, as you already know they fit well. In case you don’t have any, you can borrow shoes and jackets for free; if you want to borrow boots we recommend you wear/bring a pair of socks with you. We suggest you bring with you a bag/backpack with a bottle of water, a jacket, a hat and sunblock.
